Dr. Laytrayal Simmons is the owner of Reignite Psychological and Consulting Services, LLC. Based in Washington, DC, Dr. Simmons has over 15 years of experience providing comprehensive healthcare to residents within the District of Columbia and beyond. Dr. Simmons combines her extensive knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to conceptualize the biological, psychological, and social factors impacting a client’s mental health.
In 2017, Dr. Simmons took her work outside of the office by starting a 360 weight loss program. Through the program, she helped clients identify their target issues, understand their eating habits, and create long-term goals to lose weight and keep it off. Later that year, Dr. Simmons was featured on The Daily Spark with Dr. Angela Chester to discuss the program and her holistic approach to psychology itself.
“I was a working professional who decided to go back to school,” she said. “Not only did I have to reorganize my finances, but my classmates were also in their mid-20’s, and I had other responsibilities. When I saw the toll it took on my mind and body, I decided to make a change. Then, I incorporated that into my practice.” Dr. Simmons’ 360 program is available through her practice and verified by Psychology Today.
In addition to her practice, Dr. Simmons has offered her professional opinion on several online and radio shows. Her media appearances include Financial Empowerment with Nick Abrams, The Daily Spark with Dr. Angela, Recalibrate your life with Coach Janice, and more recently, By Any Means Necessary with Eugene Puryear to discuss trauma and mental health within the black community.
Dr. Simmons seamlessly blends her experiences as a psychologist, entrepreneur, mother, and woman of color to dissect some of today’s most compelling topics with intelligence and much-needed nuance. From her time working in the criminal justice system to her observations of trauma, race, gender, and sexuality, Dr. Simmons carves out a lane of her own within the fragmented media landscape.
“My mission is to educate. As a psychologist, it’s not my job to provide you with an opinion, but provide you with the best information so you can make the best decisions regarding your life. I tackle hard topics because, for many of us, life doesn’t have a filter. Therefore, we can’t pretend things that make us afraid or uncomfortable don’t exist. Rather, let’s break them down and find a way to create a healthy, respectful dialogue.”
